1989: Provided Voluntary Disability for a local commuter railroad |

1990: Developed Voluntary Disability coverage for New Jersey Transit, Amtrak,
CSX, Norfolk Southern, etc. |

1995: Added many divisions to the Voluntary Disability plan at the
Southeastern union meeting in Virginia Beach. |

renewal process |
At the end of the first two-year rate guarantee, CIGNA Insurance made a
renewal request of $256 per person to continue coverage, since claims far
exceeded the permissible loss ratios and ran at 317%. James DiDonato
negotiated with insurance companies to secure coverage for the BLET members.
Many
other insurance companies attempted to make a profit on BLET members with
their disability insurance. NABCO, Hartford, Guarantee Life, (ING) Reliastar,
and Standard of Oregon all required substantial rate increases at the end of
their two-year rate guarantee. Every time this occurred, James DiDonato
managed to negotiate excellent coverage protecting the BLET members.

When numerous General Committees of both freight and commuter rail of the BLET negotiated
their collective bargaining agreements "employer paid disability insurance", Locomotive Disability Specialists provided the coverage.
For some committees, they
also provide an added buy-up policy that is offered to the members. When
claims run bad and the policies are cancelled, we once again obtain coverage from
another carrier, keeping the General Committee insured. |

Locomotive Disability Specialists also provides $50,000 Accidental Death &
Dismemberment insurance coverage for the members of the Brotherhoods Relief
and Compensation Fund – an awesome benefit for BRCF members! We’ve negotiated
the renewals of this policy with various carriers, just as we have with the
Voluntary Disability coverage. |

Over the years, Locomotive Disability Specialists has participated in many annual meetings,
including the EUMA, Southeastern meeting. We have
enjoyed sponsoring lunches, hospitality suites, golf outings, Christmas
dinners and workshops for local chairmen and Secretary-Treasurers. |

Today, approximately 160 BLET divisions are participating in the Voluntary
Disability plan. Coverage is currently provided by Reliance Standard
Life Insurance
